Veteran Programs

We offer three different services especially for Veterans and their spouses in special circumstances. We work with a variety of resources to offer services to Veterans in the comfort of their home. We are honored to serve those who have served!

  1. Personal Care Program: A benefit that provides assistance in the home with grooming, dressing, bathing, and toileting.
  2. Veterans’ Aid & Attendance: A&A is part of the VA’s Improved Pension. A&A is the highest level awarded to a veteran or surviving spouse who requires assistance from another person or caregiver with their activities of daily living in at least two areas such as bathing, dressing, eating, toileting, and transferring. The applicant must show that while they may not need assistance for everything they cannot function completely on their own.
  3. Veterans’ Respite: Need a break from caregiving? The home care assistant can perform caregiver duties while the caregiver is away.

Veteran Directed Care

Veteran Directed Care gives Veterans of all ages the opportunity to receive the Home and Community Based Services they need in a consumer-directed way.
This program is for Veterans who need personal care services and help with activities of daily living. Examples include help with bathing, dressing, or fixing meals. This program is also for Veterans who are isolated, or their caregiver is experiencing burden.
Veterans in this program are given a budget for services that is managed by the Veteran or the Veteran’s representative. With the help of a counselor, Veterans hire their own workers to meet their daily needs to help them live at home or in their community.
Employees of White River Area Agency on Aging serve as counselors and fiduciary assistants for the Veterans in this self-directed program.
